macOS Big Sur (v11.x)

Installation

When you download the macOS Spiceworks Agent installer, the compressed file includes both the installer and uninstaller. After completing installation the agent will launch automatically at each boot.

macOS GUI installation

  • To install the agent, double-click the .command installer file.
  • Depending on your macOS security configuration you may need to open the General tab of the Security & Privacy area in the Settings app, and click “Open anyway”.
  • You should be prompted to enter your Site Key which you can copy and paste from the page where you downloaded the agent (either the Inventory online or Connectivity Dashboard page).

After entering the Site Key, you will see a typical macOS installer.

Terminal (command line) installation

When using the above command line example:

  • Replace [PUT_YOUR_SITE_KEY_HERE] with your actual site key. You can find your site key by clicking the Agent Download button.
  • You’ll need to check the extracted files and replace the X’s in the file name (ex. spiceworks-agentshell-0.3.12.pkg) with the correct version numbers.

Common installation issues

If you see an “Install Failed” error after installation, try restarting macOS and then restart the installer process.
